THE ANCIENT MULE TRACKS _ The project was developed in the internal areas of the Italian Apennines in the territory of the  Gran Sasso Monti della Laga . It has been included in the post-earthquake redevelopment plan – the “Earthquake Masterplan” – in the municipality of Acquasanta Terme. The project is located in a mountainous area of variable altitude between 400 and 2100 meters with an extension of 140 square kilometers upon which about 60 small villages with depopulation problems are distributed. The development of the project is particularly complex, due to the low population density and heterogeneity of the territory. The planning includes the reinstatement of 120 km of ancient paths that, in the past, used to connect the hamlets and places of historical and landscape interest. It also involves the launch of a marketing campaign and the creation of products intended for the experiential tourism. In the preliminary phase of this study, I examined the history, the demographic evolution, the orography and all the regulations by analyzing the archives and interviewing the inhabitants. The aim is to implement a shared, integrated and sustainable intervention. Mapping activities, photographic and video researches were carried out. The project intervened on the roads leading to many sources, canyons, mountain ridges, prairies, valleys and waterfalls. Paths have been cleaned and restored, parking areas were created and signage has been installed. It is possible to find detailed information sheets, videos and galleries, on a website that was created exclusively for this project. In addition, we provided for the construction of an exhibition zone with various exploration areas. We deeply examined historical and artistic study with cards and images, and we carried out an investigation on the demography through ancient data, graphs and images. It has also been realized an immersive space with sculptural elements, 3D maps and projections with in-flight and underwater shots and sound effects. The VR experience collaborated with the University and Videomakers who worked on 3D content created during these months of work.
